The first module, ST67W611M1, features a Qualcomm® QCC743 multi-protocol connectivity system-on-chip (SoC), pre-installed with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 qualified, and Thread combo protocols, enabling easy integration with any STM32 microcontroller (MCU) or microprocessor (MPU). The module will support the Matter protocol over Wi-Fi, enabling future-proof wireless connectivity and allowing the STM32 product lineup to seamlessly enter the Matter ecosystem. To simplify system integration, the module also includes 4MB of code and data flash memory, along with a 40MHz crystal oscillator. Additionally, the module comes with an integrated PCB antenna or a micro RF (uFL) external antenna connector.
Remi El-Ouazzane, President of STMicroelectronics' Microcontroller, Digital IC, and RF Products Division (MDRF), said: "Our collaboration offers multiple benefits to the wide community of developers using the STM32 series for embedded systems design. Now, product developers can easily access Qualcomm's widely-used and influential wireless connectivity technologies alongside STM32's powerful software, tools, and features, accelerating project timelines."
Rahul Patel, General Manager of Qualcomm Technologies' Connectivity, Broadband, and Networking Business Unit, stated: "Our mission has only just begun, and we expect this collaboration to produce even more outcomes that empower new advanced edge processing applications. We look forward to continuing our partnership with STMicroelectronics to deliver unparalleled connectivity experiences to users through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AI, 5G, and more."
The module incorporates advanced hardware security features, including a hardware encryption accelerator and services such as secure boot and secure debug, achieving PSA Level 1 certification. The module is a standalone product, pre-certified according to mandatory standards, with no requirement for developers to have specialized RF design knowledge. It integrates many functions in a 32-pin LGA package, which can be directly mounted onto a circuit board using simple, low-cost two-layer PCB designs.
The ST67W611M1 leverages the STM32 ecosystem, which includes over 4,000 products, powerful STM32Cube tools and software, and hardware and software that facilitate edge AI development, including the recently launched STM32N6 MCU and ST Edge AI Suite software. The STM32N6 MCU integrates STMicroelectronics' proprietary Neural-ART Accelerator neural network processor, while the ST Edge AI Suite offers an AI Model Zoo library, along with STM32Cube.AI and NanoEdge AI optimization tools.
These modules are designed for quick integration with any STM32 microcontroller or STM32 microprocessor, providing customers with flexible and broad performance, pricing, and power consumption options. The existing microcontroller product line fully covers low, mid, and high-end application markets, including cost and power-sensitive products based on the Arm® Cortex®-M0+ core, as well as high-performance microcontrollers, such as the STM32MP1/2 MPUs with Cortex-M4 and Cortex-A7 cores.
