Infineon announced at the OktoberTech Eco-Innovation Summit on September 12, 2025, that it plans to begin mass production of automotive microcontrollers (MCUs) based on the RISC-V architecture between 2028 and 2029, with samples expected to be available in 2026. This new product line will be included in Infineon's established AURIX™ brand, covering a wide range of automotive applications from entry-level to high-performance, driving automotive electronic architectures toward higher computing power and centralized development.

Infineon will leverage its 10% stake in TSMC's ESMC fab in Germany to specifically produce high-performance RISC-V MCUs for automotive central computing units, while other types of domain controller MCUs will be manufactured in Infineon's own facilities, creating complementary capacity. Company executive Hans Adlkofer noted that although Arm has an advantage in energy efficiency, RISC-V, with its openness and high-performance potential, is expected to surpass Arm in share of automotive processing units by 2035.

Infineon is actively promoting RISC-V as an open standard for the automotive industry and, through its joint venture Quintauris with several leading semiconductor companies, is accelerating the standardization and ecosystem development of RISC-V in the industry. In addition, the "Drive Core" development kit, created with toolchain partners, will provide convenient software and hardware development support for partners and customers.

The event also marked Infineon's 30th anniversary of investment in Taiwan. CEO Jochen Hanebeck personally attended and stated that OktoberTech is an important platform for driving technological innovation and strategic collaboration, highlighting Infineon's forward-looking strategy in the electrified automotive industry, especially in core trends such as software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and smart cockpits.
